About Joyce L. Thornton

I have a Masters in Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary.  I am registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.  I use a variety of therapy approaches that help with a range of issues, such as; anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, life changes etc.  I also have training in cyber counselling, which offers the convenience for you to do counselling from where ever you are at.

I have over 20 years of experience as a social worker.  I have worked with families and individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds.  I have enjoyed providing family support work, doing youth work, career counselling, job coaching and working with people with disabilities.  For the past 8 years I have been passionate about my work in the field of addictions and mental health, specializing in trauma.

On a personal note I am married and have raised three children of my own and am proud to have two grandchildren.  I know that at times life can be hard and I strive to be the healthiest I can be for myself, my family and clients.  Exercise, meditation, camping and being outdoors are some of the ways that I strive to be healthy.

I bring sincerity, compassion and gentleness to each session.  I am also honest and challenge clients in a caring way that allows you to meet your goals.  Many clients have told me that I have a soft and soothing voice that

 is quite calming

My goal is to help you cope better with life's challenges, to minimize your suffering and to live a happier, healthier  and a more fulfilling
